Joe Torre (Dodgers MGR):
When you're two weeks shy of the end of the season and your team is heading into the home stretch, vying for the division title, is a scheduled "off-day" really a day off?

Russell Branyan (Mariners):
Meanwhile, first baseman Russell Branyan is planning to join the team in St. Petersburg on Wednesday as he continues to recover from a herniated disk in his back that's kept him out since Aug. 29.

"He's with his therapist today," Wakamatsu said. "We're hopeful he comes in tomorrow and does some early work. He should be able to take some batting practice tomorrow, which is a good thing."

Jack Wilson (Mariners):
Wakamatsu said injured shortstop Jack Wilson may not be done for the year. Though Wilson remained in Seattle to tend to his bruised right heel, Wakamatsu seemed confident Wilson would be able to play in the next homestand.

Ronnie Belliard (Dodgers):

Edgar Gonzalez (Padres):
San Diego right fielder Edgar Gonzalez left Tuesday's game in the seventh inning with a partial dislocation of his left shoulder after attempting to catch Clint Barmes' fly ball.

Jamie Moyer (Phillies):
"I think we need to worry about winning tomorrow," said left-hander Jamie Moyer, who allowed three runs in seven innings in Game 2. "I don't think we can concern ourselves with home-field advantage and anything beyond that. We've played a lot, and there's a lot more baseball to be played. But if you don't win tomorrow, then you've got to focus on the next day. If you start looking beyond that, you'll be in for a rude awakening."

Placido Polanco (Tigers):
Placido Polanco's approach doesn't change, first or last place, April or September, his preparation doesn't change. All that's changing lately are his numbers.

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Once again, we're talking about price, rather than some personal gripes with these people (for "personal gripes," see "Carl Pavano.") Marquis, coming off a terrific year with the Rockies, is sure to be in demand. But if you look at his history, you see that, more often than not, he has been more of a back-of-the-rotation innings-eater than a frontline starter.
