Todd Wellemeyer Scratched For Tuesday, Mitchell Boggs To Start

A frustrating season for Todd Wellemeyer has taken another disheartening turn. Two days before he was slated to return to the Cardinals' starting rotation, Wellemeyer came down with inflammation in his right elbow. He has been scratched from a scheduled Tuesday start and there's a good chance he will head to the disabled list.

Cardinals righthander Todd Wellemeyer felt his elbow “flare up” while playing catch Sunday at PNC Park and he does not expect to make his scheduled start Tuesday. Mitchell Boggs has arrived from Class AAA Memphis and will be activated tomorrow; the St. Louis Cardinals have not made the move official or announced a change in the rotation, but it’s likely Boggs will make the start in Wellemeyer’s place.
