Ex-Cardinals Watch 8-23-09: Chris Perez Improving; Ronnie Belliard Grand Slam; David Eckstein Signs Extension; Scott Rolen Ready To Come Off D.L.

Chris Perez (Indians):
For now, Smith and Chris Perez, in particular, have been very strong. Perez had a rough start to his Tribe career after his arrival from St. Louis in the late June trade that sent Mark DeRosa to the Cardinals, but he's settled down. He entered the weekend set having held the opponent scoreless on three hits with four walks and 15 strikeouts over 13 1/3 innings over his last 13 appearances since July 7.
