Cards likely to dangle Glaus
The addition of left fielder Matt Holliday all but ensures that the Cardinals will attempt to trade Troy Glaus, who is on a rehabilitation assignment while recovering from surgery on his right shoulder.
The Giants, Braves, Rangers and Tigers are among the clubs expected to scout Glaus at Class AA Springfield this weekend, according to a major-league source.
Glaus, a third baseman who recently has played some left field on this assignment, no longer has a position with the Cardinals with Holliday in left, Mark DeRosa at third and Albert Pujols at first.
GMs, scouts weigh in on A's-Cards trade
One general manager's take on the Holliday trade: "In light of the current climate, good return on a 70-game guy. All based on what (Wallace) turns out to be. We are not high on the other two guys."
A scout's take on Wallace: "He can hit but he throws like a girl. They acquired a DH — I think he might be Jack Cust Jr. with fewer Ks. (Outfielder Shane) Peterson is the hidden gem!"
Peterson, a converted first baseman, is a good athlete who will hit, one executive says. The question is whether he will produce enough power to profile at a corner position.
Jays trying to deal more than Doc
In addition to the Halladay discussions, the Blue Jays continue to push third baseman Scott Rolen and first baseman/DH Kevin Millar in trade talks, while a number of their relievers also are drawing interest.
