Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-7-09: Kip Wells Released; Luke Gregerson & Scott Thomas Activated; Alberto Castillo & Randy Flores Optioned; David Eckstein On DL

Daric Barton (Athletics):
It almost seems as if Barton is washed up at this point. The former top prospect in the system flamed out last year when given the big-league job at first base, and then he followed that up with a miserable start at Triple-A when he was sent back down to the minors to begin the year. After spending much of June in back in the big leagues more out of necessity than anything else, Barton is now trying to hit his way back, going 7-for-21 with three home runs since his return to Sacramento. He's still a relatively young 23, and he still has some kind of a chance.

Chris Perez (Indians):
It was not the kind of first impression any pitcher would want to make.

Adam Kennedy (Athletics):
The A's got him more, though. Mark Ellis hit a two-run double to center later in the inning, and Adam Kennedy made it 4-0 with an RBI single, one of his three hits on the night.

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Not that Jason Marquis needed it as he recorded his best-in-baseball 11th win, but the game served as an exclamation point after his All-Star selection Sunday. The veteran right-hander tossed eight shutout innings, extending his scoreless streak to 17 frames. That stretch includes a complete-game victory over the Dodgers.

Joe Girardi (Yankees MGR):
Derek Jeter's lengthy Major League career has featured many events on the playing field, but thus far, he has been able to avoid an ejection. Yet if he were tossed in the first inning on Monday, he might have been justified.

Scott Thomas (Dodgers):

Randy Flores (Rockies):
