Day Three Draft Round Up Cardinals

As the major league amateur draft wound through its third and final day today, the Cardinals took righthanded pitcher David Kington of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and righthander Andy Moss from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.

Estero High School senior Tyler Bighames was selected in the 31st round, 939th overall, this morning by the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Bighames, a 6-foot-2, 190 pound right-hander, hit .438 with five homers and 25 RBI as a senior. He has signed with the University of Oregon.

Lavigne finished with a record of 8-2 along with a 3.05 earned run average. He was a second-team all-Mountain West Conference selection whose strikeout total of 87 overall and 41 in league games ranked second in the MWC only to teammate Stephen Strasburg. His 6.78 hits allowed per nine innings was the 20th-best mark in the nation and opponents hit just .209 against him.
