Another Blow To An Epic Chase

Sammy Sosa, who joined with Mark McGwire in 1998 in a celebrated pursuit of baseball’s single-season home run record, is among the players who tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003, according to lawyers with knowledge of the drug-testing results from that year.

Sammy Sosa went from a skinny outfielder to a muscular home run hitter, chasing Roger Maris' record and belting more than 600 home runs in his career. The right fielder often credited Flintstone vitamins, in part, for his success.

Sammy Sosa, who is currently 6th on the all-time homerun list, reportedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during MLB’s “survey test” that was conducted in 2003. The leak of Sosa being on the list follows on the heels of Alex Rodriguez testing positive for PEDs during MLB’s first wave of testing. The results of that test were to remain anonymous, but were seized as part of a federal investigation into steroid use in Major League Baseball.
