Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Veteran shortstop Jack Wilson is ready — and eager — to return to the lineup.
Wilson has been on the disabled list with a sprained middle finger on his left hand, affecting both his ability to handle the ball and the bat.
He has taken batting practice, though not off live pitching yet, and ground balls.
“He wore me out,” said Russell, who threw batting practice to him.
Plans are to send Wilson to Syracuse on Friday, where he will join the Indianapolis Indians on a rehabilitation assignment where he will play three games before being activated.“All systems are go,” Wilson said. “I just to see some pitching. The last thing I want to do is show up there naked.”
The Pirates are thankful for that.

J.D. Drew (Red Sox):
Forced to put together a lineup for Wednesday night's game that didn't include leadoff man Jacoby Ellsbury (tightness in right hamstring) or cleanup man Kevin Youkilis (ailing left side), Red Sox manager Terry Francona's quick fix for the situation was to bat J.D. Drew in the leadoff spot.
