Ex-Cardinals Watch 5-5-09: Felipe Lopez, Jack Wilson, Tyler Johnson, & So Taguchi Injury Updates; Jeff Weaver Making MLB Comeback; Coco Crisp Chat

Felipe Lopez (Diamondbacks):
Manager Bob Melvin said 2B Felipe Lopez is out of the lineup with left ankle soreness.
AZ Central

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Shortstop Jack Wilson took grounders earlier today again and reported to be feeling great. If all goes well these next few days, Wilson plans to travel with the team to NY on Friday and then join the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse on Saturday. He'd stay with the Indianapolis club through Monday and then come off the DL on Tuesday.

David Eckstein (Padres):
There is a cartoon character in the Eckstein household, but it’s not the scrappy little infielder.
Gainesville Sun

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
He navigated a soggy mound and threw 65 of his 108 pitches for strikes, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings. Suppan, who was dogged by a right elbow injury beginning in June of last season, had not thrown that many pitches in a game since a 110-pitch win over the Cardinals on May 11, 2008.

Jeff Weaver (Dodgers):
Makes sense to Jeff Weaver, who took another step on his comeback-of-the-year journey with a triumphant return to the Dodgers' starting rotation. Making his first Major League start since 2007 and first for the Dodgers since 2005, he allowed one run on a wild pitch, lasted five innings while striking out six and walking only one.

Anthony Reyes (Indians):

Tyler Johnson (Mariners):
Johnson should be starting a rehab assignment later this week, probably at Triple-A Tacoma, and could be ready to join the Mariners later this month or early June.

Julian Tavarez & Kip Wells (Nationals):
Right-handers Julian Tavarez and Garrett Mock allowed RBI singles to Carlos Lee and Tejada, respectively, and Lee scored the tying run on an error by Guzman at shortstop. Astros outfielder Hunter Pence hit a perfect double-play ball to Hernandez at second, and he made a perfect throw to Guzman, but the shortstop dropped the ball and everyone was safe.

The Astros would score the last run of the day in the top of the ninth inning, when Geoff Blum knocked a Kip Wells pitch for a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 10.
