CALLED UP: Contract purchased from Triple-A Memphis when P Josh Kinney was sent down.
DEBUT: April 17 in an 8-7 loss to the Cubs. The starting pitcher, he didn't get a decision, allowing three runs on six hits in four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
NOTES: Coming off of his lone Triple-A start of the season in which he tossed seven innings of two-hit shutout ball for Memphis on April 11, Walters was summoned to take the place of injured starter Chris Carpenter for one start before moving to the Cards' bullpen. He's been a strikeout machine the past two seasons and was the Cards' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in '07. His out pitch is a baffling screwball-like changeup.
