The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds placed left-handed pitcher Katsuhiko Maekwawa on the 7-day disabled list, for an undisclosed reason, on Friday.
Maekawa, 30, was signed to a minor league contract over the offseason to add depth to the St. Louis Cardinals lefty pitching arsenal after making a couple appearances in the Dominican Republic and Venezuelan Leagues during the winter season. He has made three appearances (two starts) posting an 0-1 record and 7.20 ERA. He's allowed 15 hits, eight earned runs, one home run, three walks, and struck out 13 over ten innings.
The Japanese born Maekawa took over a spot in the rotation when both Mitchell Boggs and P.J. Walters were called up to the major league club mid-April. He's best known for letting one fly and tag Brett Wallace during major league spring training camp.
