Darren Oliver (Angels):
Right-hander Anthony Ortega, who didn't get much of a look this spring, throwing just one inning before being sent down to triple-A Salt Lake, is one candidate. But Scioscia, backtracking on a statement he had made just a day earlier, said reliever Darren Oliver is also a possibility.
Oliver, a left-hander, has made 228 big-league starts, although the last one came in 2004.

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson won't take much credit for his strong performance to open to the season.

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
It was a strange question amid the fanfare of the Brewers' home opener: whether Jeff Suppan has been a disappointment over the first two years (plus one start) of his four-year Brewers contract. But it offered general manager Doug Melvin an opportunity to defend his most veteran starter.

Brewers starter Jeff Suppan and reliever Jorge Julio tied a modern Major League record by issuing four bases-loaded walks in the fourth inning, as the Cubs pulled away for a 8-5 win in front of 40,168 at Miller Park, plus a national television audience that tuned in for Milwaukee's first Sunday night game in 12 years.

Edgar Renteria (Giants):
A day game following a night game usually prompts lineup changes. That was the case Sunday with the Giants, as manager Bruce Bochy rested center fielder Aaron Rowand and shortstop Edgar Renteria.

Anthony Reyes (Indians):
And you might not have expected fifth starter Anthony Reyes to be the one to put an end to the Tribe's starting pitching skid.

Jamie Moyer (Phillies):
Maybe Jamie Moyer can get the Phillies' rotation on track. Phillies starters are 1-4 with a troubling 9.62 ERA (31 earned runs in 29 innings) in the first six games of the season. Moyer allowed eight hits, four runs, two walks and two home runs in five innings in a 4-0 loss to the Braves last Tuesday.

Mike Lincoln (Reds):
Reds reliever Mike Lincoln entered Saturday's game against the Pirates with a chance to find himself. The Reds were losing by four runs at the time, but if Lincoln, saddled with a 27.00 ERA before he stepped on the mound, could hold the Pirates scoreless, Cincinnati might have a shot at some last-minute heroics.
