Dustin Smith - Smith is the son of Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith and brother of Nikko, a finalist on last season's American Idol. He has limited minor league experience.
The Bears were interested in Preston Wilson, who inked with the Ducks. I'm told he had a strong relationship with Bud Harrelson and Gary Carter, which led him there instead of Newark.
May 3 will be Legends Day, with Yankee great Tino Martinez being the first honoree.
