John Mozeliak Visits With Kevin Slaten On 1380AM

  • First have to deal with Arbitration case before Spring Training.
  • Rick Ankiel first up, Ryan Ludwick next.
  • Unlikely on a deal getting done with Ankiel, possibility with Ludwick.
  • Outfielders switching positions is a possiblity, to get them at-bats.
  • If Andy Pettitte wanted to come to St. Louis, Mo would have had interest in him.
  • Was interest in A.J. Burnett, but it would of knocked somebody out of the rotation especially with Chris Carpenter coming back.
  • Plenty of pitchers available, that the Cardinals will wait it out to see what happens in Spring Training. Making a move in the trade market.
  • Hearing some teams wanting to move payroll, may pick up during Spring Training.
  • Will make moves if and when needed.
  • Colby Rasmus ready for the next level.
  • Thinks David Freese should get the first look at third base.
  • Showing confidence in the farm system.
  • Thinks Khalil Greene can turn it around.
  • Didn't want to make a long-term commitment to a closer, with Chris Perez and Jason Motte waiting in the shadows.
  • Was not even going to trade Ludwick for Matt Holliday.
  • Aaron Miles was expendable.
  • Thinks the Cardinals would be willing to pay up to keep Albert Pujols if he wanted to stay.
  • Boiling the ocean.
  • Tony LaRussa will wait til the end of the season to decide on whether he wants to come back.
