Khalil Greene To Be Traded To The Cardinals, For Two Relief Prospects

In a continuing attempt to reduce payroll, the Padres were closing in on trading their starting shortstop, Khalil Greene to the Cardinals. Greene is due $6.5 million next year in the final season of his contract.

Khalil Greene's name hasn't been nearly as prevalent this winter as, say, pitcher Jake Peavy, though that doesn't mean Padres general manager Kevin Towers hasn't been asked about the San Diego shortstop.
