Righthander Braden Looper pitched more than effectively in his first outing of the spring, though he was the losing pitcher in a 3-2 setback Monday against the Washington Nationals. Looper, throwing his sinkerball an estimated 80 percent of the time, recorded seven ground-ball outs and gave up just three hits and one run in three innings.
