Cardinals Name Stephen Piscotty 2015 MiLB Player Of The Year, Alex Reyes & Austin Gomber 2015 Co-MiLB Pitchers Of The Year
The St. Louis Cardinals today announced the recipients of the organization's 2015 Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year awards, and for the first time since the award's inception in 1995, there are co-recipients of the top honor for pitchers, with right-hander Alex Reyes and lefty Austin Gomber both being selected. Outfielder Stephen Piscotty, who became a key contributor for the Cardinals as they delivered a third-straight N.L. Central Division title and the ninth 100-win season in franchise history, was named the organization's top player for 2015.

The Cardinals on Monday named outfielder Stephen Piscotty their Minor League Player of the Year while selecting both right-hander Alex Reyes and lefty Austin Gomber as their Minor League Pitchers of the Year.

The misstep that could slow Alex Reyes' arrival in the majors was not enough to keep the Cardinals from honoring how successful he's been as he sped through the minors.

A Tribute To Rick Ankiel
With the news yesterday that Rick Ankiel is retiring, it is time to honor one of the Chiefs players from the 25th Anniversary team named in 2007. In 1998 (As an 18 year old!!), Ankiel made his pro debut as Peoria’s opening day starter at Kane County. He made seven starts going 3-0 with a 2.06 ERA with 41 strikeouts and 12 walks in 35 innings before a May promotion to High-A Prince William.

Saturday night, while watching the Oakland – Detroit game and seeing 2007 Chiefs pitcher Al Alburquerque face 2008 Chiefs catcher, turned 3B Josh Donaldson I was curious as to how many times that had happened. So the research was done and here is the list of the 27 occurrences when a former Chiefs pitcher faced a former Chiefs batter in the MLB post-season. Stats and some interesting notes at the bottom of the table.

Kevin Siegrist Provides Key Lefty Help Out Of Bullpen; Minors Matters; Worth Noting
Finding the appropriate spots to use Randy Choate out of the bullpen became increasingly difficult for manager Mike Matheny during a five-week stretch in which Choate was the lone lefty in the 'pen. But that void left with Marc Rzepczynski's departure has recently been filled -- and filled quite well -- by rookie Kevin Siegrist, whose successful start is providing Matheny with more flexibility in how he lines up his bullpen.

Jason Motte, Like Others Before Him, On The Mend
One of the scariest things about being a closer is how short your shelf life can be at the major-league level. You can be a guy who is capable of throwing his smoke ball in the upper 90s or lower 100s, but there is only so much torque that your elbow can withstand before the joint feels like it’s ready to explode.

Adam Ottavino, Daryl Jones & The Real Rule 5 Draft
There has been a lot of chatter and clatter about the St. Louis Cardinals decision to expose pitcher Adam Ottavino and outfielder Daryl Jones to the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The prevailing sentiment - why would the Cardinals risk losing two former prospects to the other teams? - ignores a key part of this annual roster shuffle.
