Pitching, Defense Win The Day In October

Ever since I was a little kid growing up in the Oakland A’s clubhouse, with a dad who was the pitching coach, I’ve heard talk – and a lot of it – about what it takes to win a championship. As a former catcher, most of my dad’s talk centered on how important a good backstopper could be to a pitching staff. The way a catcher could call a game and handle his batterymate could change a game. Papa Dunc always mentioned that he didn’t care if the catcher couldn’t hit a lick – he wanted defense behind the dish, and that would be the difference.

2011 Palm Beach Field Staff Announced

The Palm Beach Cardinals' 2011 field staff will feature two new names, but one very familiar face, as former pitching coach and MLB great Dennis Martinez returns to Palm Beach, joining returning manager Luis Aguayo and hitting coach Jeff Albert, and new athletic trainer Manabu Kawazuru.
