Yoshitomo Tsutsugo Makes Rays Spring Training Debut

While Yoshitomo Tsutsugo’s performance on the field will ultimately decide if the two-year, $12 million deal was a good investment on the Rays' part, the organization's focus this spring is to help the 28-year-old slugger get acclimated to the United States and the Major Leagues.

Mookie Betts Wins Gold Glove

Fenway Park has some of the more difficult right-field dimensions in all of baseball, but that hasn't stopped Red Sox superstar Mookie Betts from becoming the American League's defensive standard at the position in recent years. The 27-year-old was recognized with his fourth straight American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award on Sunday, topping the Angels' Kole Calhoun and the Astros' Josh Reddick for the honor.

Ten Hitters For Rays To Consider

The Rays' premise in getting rid of leading home-run hitter C.J. Cron last week was to create the opportunity to add a better bat. Either to upgrade at the first base / DH spot Cron shared or, better, to add a right-handed hitter with more positional versatility who can make the lineup better in different ways.

Harrison Bader Deserved Award For Fielding Prowess

Harrison Bader wasn't one of the three finalists for the National League Gold Glove in center field, won for the third straight year by Ender Inciarte. He didn't take the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award in center either, somehow won by Kevin Kiermaier despite playing only 88 games in the outfield, 30 fewer than Bader did.

Harrison Bader: Rookie Of The Year?

Repeat something often enough and you start to take it for granted. For example, something I’ve taken for granted is that the National League Rookie of the Year race will inevitably come down to Ronald Acuna vs. Juan Soto. I mean no disrespect to, say, Brian Anderson or Dereck Rodriguez, but this is where I am, and I know I’m not alone. Soto and Acuna have been absolutely sensational, and they’ve drawn themselves a lot of attention. The Braves have a franchise player on their hands. The Nationals do, too. These are two guys who could one day end up in the Hall of Fame.
