Triple-A: New Orleans (Miami) Beat Memphis 5-3: 

Breyvic Valera (Memphis) covered second base and went 2-for-4 with one double.
Matt Pearce (Springfield) pitched 3.2 innings and allowed one hit, one earned run, one walk, and struck two out.


Double-A: Springfield & Jacksonville (Miami) Tied 1-1:

Oscar Mercado (Palm Beach) manned centerfield and went 1-for-1 with one double.
Jack Flaherty (Palm Beach) pitched four innings and allowed three hits, no runs, and struck four out.


A-Advanced: Jupiter (Miami) Beat Palm Beach 4-2:

Craig Aikin (Peoria) manned right field and went 2-for-3 with one run, one walk, and one strikeout.
Ross Vance (Johnson City) pitched four innings and allowed two hits, one earned run, and struck seven out


Single-A: Greensboro (Miami) Beat Peoria 4-3:

Brady Whalen (Gulf Coast League) 1-for-3 with one home run, one RBI, and one run.


Single-A: Peoria Two Beat Greensboro Two (Miami) 8-3:

Carlos Rodriguez (Gulf Coast League) covered first base and went 2-for-5 with one double and three RBIs.
Ronnie Williams (Peoria) pitched four innings and allowed two hits, one earned run, two walks, and struck two out.

Abraham Nunez (Diamondbacks):
The D-backs signed infielder Abraham Nunez from the independent Newark Bears on Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Reno.

While Jim Rice was walking through the archives collections room during his orientation tour at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Friday morning, two Dodgers artifacts had just arrived and were being prepared for display to the many baseball fans who make the pilgrimage to upstate New York.

Shortstop Edgar Renteria likely will miss the rest of the Giants' series against the New York Mets with a strained right hamstring but could be fit to play by next Tuesday, when the club visits San Diego to begin a two-city, six-game trip.

Dmitri Young (Nationals):
Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young has taken a leave of absence to be with his mother, who is gravely ill. Washington told Young to take all the time he needed to be with his mother, and Young did not offer a timetable as to when he will return to the field.

Randy Flores (Rockies):
Veteran left-handed relief pitcher Randy Flores' time with the Cardinals ended last September when he underwent shoulder surgery. He signed with the Rockies during the winter and thought he was ready to return to the Major Leagues at the end of Spring Training.

Zach Zuercher (Worcester):
Worcester of the Can-Am League Signed him to a contract for the 2009 season.

Josh Brey (Camden):
It also looks like the team signed pitcher Josh Brey, a former Somerset Patriot. He has Single-A experience with the St. Louis Cardinals.
