Johnson City Notes: Jose Pasen Suspended 50 Games & Jeff Nadeau Released

Major League Baseball suspended right-handed pitcher Jose Pasen for 50 games for testing positive for metabolites of Nandrolone.  The substance is listed as a performance-enhancing drug.

Pasen, 21, signed with the St. Louis Cardinals on March 28, 2007 out of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.  He was originally signed as an outfielder but was moved to the pitching rubber in his second professional season.  From 2007-09, he spent time in the Rookie-Level Dominican Summer League and during the 2009 season he was promoted stateside to the Rookie-Level Gulf Coast League.  He continued with a full season at GCL and was moved up to Rookie-Level Johnson City for the 2011 year.  Pasen has logged 231.2 innings allowing 192 hits, 128 runs (87 earned), 13 home runs, 95 walks, and struck 213 out.

Cody Stanley and Reggie Williams are the other two Cardinals prospects serving suspensions at this time.

Baseball America announced on April 19 that the St. Louis Cardinals released left-handed pitcher Jeff Nadeau.

Nadeau, 22, was a 38th round (1159th overall) selection in the 2010 amateur draft out of Louisiana State University.  He began his professional career with Rookie-Level Johnson City where he made 13 appearances (three starts) posting a 1-2 record and 2.77 ERA during the 2010 season.  Nadeau logged 39 innings allowing 37 hits, 17 runs (12 earned), two home runs, ten walks, and struck out 28.

He began the 2011 season on the disabled list and never left due to shoulder soreness.
