The National League Division Series’ opening act ended with Carlos Martínez on the mound to close out a 7-6 Cardinals win over the Braves in Game 1 on Thursday at SunTrust Park. Consider it the result and circumstance the Cards wanted, even if it wasn’t exactly the way they drew it up and wasn’t always pretty.

Paul DeJong started at shortstop and batted sixth.  2-for-4 with one run, one intentional walk, one strikeout, and assisted in one double play.
Kolten Wong started at second base and batted seventh.  2-for-4 with one double, two two-out RBIs, one intentional walk, one throwing error, and assisted in one double play.
Matt Carpenter entered late in the game at third base and batted eighth.  1-for-1 with one two-out RBI.
