Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-21-09: Daric Barton Called Up; Edgar Gonzalez & Jose Mateo Hit D.L.; Mike Lincoln Has Surgery; Felipe Lopez Makes Impression

Daric Barton (Athletics):
Giambi was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quad, the team announced Monday. Daric Barton was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take his place on the roster.

Felipe Lopez (Brewers):
Lopez swung a hot bat the rest of the game, singling in the third, notching a leadoff triple in the fifth and singling again in the ninth. By going 4-for-4 with a walk, he posted his second four-hit game of the season. It was also his first triple since June 23 and just his fourth since the start of last season.

Braden Looper (Brewers):

Edgar Gonzalez (Padres):
Padres second baseman Edgar Gonzalez could only do one thing as he collapsed on home plate, having been struck in the head by a 93-mph fastball on Saturday at PETCO Park.

Luis Perdomo (Padres):
Black will look to relievers Luis Perdomo and Mike Ekstrom to get some increased nods, along with lefty Joe Thatcher, who was recalled on Monday from Triple-A Portland.

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
On Monday, Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson wanted to make it clear that despite not accepting the Pirates' initial contract extensions, both remain willing to continue negotiations with the club. Pirates Official Site

Mike Lincoln (Reds):
Reliever Mike Lincoln had cervical disk replacement surgery on Monday in St. Louis. The prognosis after the two-hour operation is that Lincoln will make a full recovery and, barring complications, can begin a throwing program in September.

Jose Mateo (Rockford):
The Rockford Riverhawks of the Frontier League placed him on the 14-day disabled list.

Mark Mulder (Free Agent):
The Dodgers aren't interested in Mark Mulder, a free agent who is recovering from a shoulder injury.

Jamey Wright remains the primary option when the situation calls for a ground ball despite faltering Friday and Sunday in those situations. He is 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA in 20 games since May 20.

Adam Shelton (Mississippi River Kings/Hockey):
The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League have announced the addition of Adam Shelton to the team's front office staff.

Shelton takes on the duties of Group Sales Manager for the defending Northeast Division champions.

Shelton comes to the RiverKings after spending the past three seasons working with the Memphis Redbirds organization, working his way up to his final position of Senior Ticket Sales Executive with the Redbirds.

Shelton grew up in Memphis and went on to graduate from Mississippi State University. He returned home to get his master's degree from the University of Memphis in Sport and Leisure Commerce.
