Luis Tena was the top reliever in the first month of the
season as he led the way in strikeouts, innings, and kept the walks down. William Miranda and Ronald Suarez were not
far behind but struggled a little with command with each having walks almost as
high as strikeouts. Larimel Soriano’s
ERA was in good shape due to many errors.
Victor Villanueva and Yonael Dominguez each had strong opening to the
year but didn’t get as many innings in as the few mentioned before.

In the second month of the season, Miranda was the go-to
reliever as he lowered his walks and upped the strikeouts with a big
improvement in his ERA. Tena was on
track for another solid month before being promoted to the states. Luis Garcia became a major middle reliever
for the club during this time also. De
Los Santos saw major improvements compared to the previous month as Soriano
stayed on course.

Soriano led the way in strikeouts but had troubles leaving
the ball out over the plate as he also had the highest hits and runs allowed
during August. Villanueva and Brayan
Ramirez each kept their ERAs below one, assisted by the errors. Garcia led the way in saves and kept his ERA
on track compared to the previous month.
Rodriguez, Nelson Prada, Allinson Benitez, Fernandez, and De Los Santos
all became dependable relievers in the final month of the season.

Looking at overall numbers for the season, William Miranda,
Luis Garcia, and Victor Villanueva all make strong cases for the 2019 Dominican
Summer League Reliever of the Year. However,
Villanueva has a low strikeout count and his ERA looks good as he benefitted
from numerous errors committed but he did keep the walks down. Garcia built up the saves and struck out a
batter in each of his appearances, but his ERA is a lot higher than the other
two. My personal choice is Miranda for
the award as he led the way in strikeouts, ERA, innings pitched, and
holds. He played a very valuable role
for his club during the 2019 season.
