Yadier Molina's Grapefruit Timetable Firming Up; Live Look; Andrew Morales Sidelined Indefinitely; Worth Noting

The Cardinals have circled March 14 -- exactly two weeks before the club’s regular-season opener -- as their target date to have Yadier Molina catch his first Grapefruit League game of the season, manager Mike Shildt announced Monday. The club has intentionally slowed Molina’s schedule this spring in order to allow him additional time to recover from offseason knee surgery. Molina will be used as a designated hitter in spring games likely about a week before getting behind the plate.

An hour or so later, after he had seen three of the best arms in camp spin through their early-morning live batting practice sessions, manager Mike Shildt admitted that he watched from the outfield, saw the movement of pitches, and “was just cackling to myself.”

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, who returned to the crouch this past weekend for Adam Wainwright's bullpen session, will see his first turn in games behind the plate on March 14, manager Mike Shildt said.
