Puzzling? Maybe. But Cardinals' Deadline Strategy Showed A Shift In Focus To What The Organization Has Traditionally Done Best

St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak admits Tuesday’s trade-deadline performance wasn’t a home run for his front office. The organization and the major-league team got younger, which seems to be their objective these days. If their scouts are right about the minor-league players they acquired Tuesday, primarily by trading starting center fielder Tommy Pham to the Tampa Bay Rays for three minor leaguers, they could actually be better in as little as a year.
