Cardinals Optioned Jack Flaherty To Triple-A Memphis & Recalled Austin Gomber

The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today's game that they have recalled rookie left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber from Memphis (AAA). The team also announced that right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty was optioned to the triple-A Redbirds following last night's game.

The Cardinals brought in a reinforcement for their bullpen Sunday, recalling rookie left-hander Austin Gomber from Triple-A Memphis and optioning right-handed starter Jack Flaherty to Triple-A.

A day after making a spot start for the St. Louis Cardinals, top prospect Jack Flaherty is back in Triple-A Memphis, replaced by Austin Gomber, who is coming off a record-setting performance on the mound.

Earlier this week there was extensive discussion about who should make Saturday’s start for the St. Louis Cardinals, with much of the debate focusing on Jack Flaherty or Austin Gomber. The team elected to recall Flaherty for the start, who left the game with a 2-1 lead and two runners on base in the 6th inning of yesterday’s 6-2 loss.
