While the Cardinals’ Jack Flaherty will likely start out in Triple A with the Memphis Redbirds, the 22-year-old still projects to receive substantial time in the majors this season. Over the course of a grueling 162-game season, an MLB starting rotation requires on average over ten pitchers a season. Factor in Adam Wainwright’s injury- and age-related decline, Michael Wacha’s persisting shoulder issues, Luke Weaver’s inexperience dealing with a full-season workload, and whether or not Miles Mikolas’ NPB success will translate to the MLB, and you can see the opportunity is there for Flaherty.
