The Pioneers have only a few returning starters in the regular lineup: Burgess (.280 with nine home runs) at shortstop, Kep Brown (.279 with 11 homers) in the outfield and Oliver Hill (.309), who was used mostly as a designated hitter. Brown is a former 10th-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals and was considered a sure-thing first-rounder, but suffered a shoulder injury last season and played in only 40 games. He had surgery and expectations are soaring again for the former Wando High standout.
