Righthander Mike Leake signed with the Cardinals about a year ago for $80 million over five years, which in baseball’s inflated salary stratosphere isn’t that far removed from newcomer Dexter Fowler’s recent $82.5 million, five-year deal to become the Cardinals’ leadoff man and center fielder. The relative expectations for both, however, seem very different, no doubt based on their numbers for last year.
