Blues Top Blackhawks 8-7 In Winter Classic Alumni Game

It may have been a warm up of sorts, but a huge crowd gathered at Busch Stadium Saturday to see former member of the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks take to the ice. The Winter Classic Alumni game was a precursor to the main event, when the current Blues and Blackhawks skate in one of the NHL’s premiere events on Monday.

Busch Stadium got its first taste of hockey Saturday afternoon in a game that was more fanfare than intense rivalry. The celebration of St. Louis sports began with some of the greatest players ever to don the Note taking down a team of Blackhawks alumni 8-7 in front of a fervent sea of blue.

After a hard-fought third period, the St. Louis Blues alumni held on to beat the Chicago Blackhawks alumni on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-7. While the victory was undoubtedly fun for players and fans alike, though, there was so much more to the event than the final score.
