Young Battery Is Strong For Cardinals

On May 14, 2015, the Palm Beach Cardinals faced the Daytona Tortugas in a Class A Florida State League game in Daytona Beach, Fla. The starting battery in that game for the Cardinals was Luke Weaver, a veteran of six minor-league starts, throwing to Carson Kelly, who was starting his second season as a catcher after being converted from a third baseman. Weaver pitched five innings, allowing only one unearned run, but the bullpen couldn’t hold a lead and the Cardinals lost 5-4 in 12 innings before a crowd of 3,004.
