The St. Louis Cardinals announced today infielder Jhonny Peralta has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a ligament strain in his left thumb, retroactive to July 18.

Third baseman Jhonny Peralta's thumb has put him on the sidelines again. He strained a ligament in his left thumb in a plate appearance on Sunday, sat out Monday's game and on Tuesday was put on the 15-day disabled list.
