The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that infielder Matt Carpenter has been placed on Major League Baseball's Paternity List and that the team has recalled infielder Greg Garcia from Memphis (AAA).

The Cardinals were without third baseman Matt Carpenter for Wednesday's 9-8 loss to the Cubs and would continue to be without him at least into Thursday's game at Washington because of the birth of his first child.

Although he has at least three days at his disposal, Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter is expected back in time to start Saturday's game here against the Nationals.
