A man who was stationed in the center-field batter's eye with binoculars during the ninth inning in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Cardinals was a member of the Padres' security team, according to a club official.

Late in Sunday's game, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina engaged the home-plate umpire in a conversation that's, well, unusual for that point in the game. The Cardinals were about to finish an 8-5 victory, and closer Trevor Rosenthal had the tying run at the plate with two on and two out. Molina was talking to the ump instead of flashing a sign.
