Cardinals World Baseball Classic Notebook 3-17-16: Alex Mejia Doubles; Jesus Ustariz Singles Twice


Jesus Ustariz (former Johnson City-Spain) started in left field and moved to first base, batting sixth.  2-for-4 with one strikeout and assisted in two double plays.
Iker Franco (former Springfield-Spain) entered late in the game at catcher.
Richard Castillo (former Memphis-Spain) entered in the fifth and pitched to five batters.  He allowed two hits, two earned runs, and two walks (one intentional).  (p-s:23-11)(ir-s:1-1)

Colombia beat Spain 9-2

Jhonny Polanco (former Springfield-Nicaragua) entered in the eighth and pitched to three batters.  He allowed one hit, one earned run, and one walk.  (p-s:9-3)(g/f:1-0)(ir-s:3-0)

Nicaragua beat Germany 5-4 in 10 innings

Edmundo Sosa (State College-Panama) entered late in the game at shortstop and batted sixth.  0-for-1 and committed one throwing error.

Panama beat France 9-2

Alex Mejia (Memphis-Mexico) started at shortstop and batted ninth.  1-for-3 with one double.

Mexico beat Czech Republic 2-1
