One of my favorite stats, which I believe is also the theme of my favorite Devo song, is WHIP. Walks and hits per innings pitched. Basically, the goal of a pitcher is to avoid baserunners. Easy enough, right? So, WHIP measures how often a pitcher allows a base runner via a walk or a hit.
