While a pitcher’s won-loss record in the Midwest League may not be an indicator of future big league success, Gomber sure has done a lot of winning this year. The Florida Atlantic lefthander went 1-3 in April, then he started winning when May arrived and he hasn’t stopped. Gomber has won 13 straight decisions since, including wins in his past six starts, and he’s now 14-3. He also ranks among the minor league leaders in WHIP (0.98) and opponent average (.200). With a low-90s fastball and an average or better changeup and curve, he’s another useful arm in a Cardinals system that has plenty of them.
