Heck, that bat wasn't working so well anyhow. St. Louis Cardinals slugger Matt Adams, mired in a season-long funk and apparently angry to have swung and missed for strike three in the sixth inning Thursday afternoon, slammed his bat to the ground and, on the second strike, split his weapon in two. It's hard to find a good piece of ash (or maple, in this case), as broadcaster Ken Harrelson has said.
