For his first hit of spring — which came in his last start of spring — Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez outran the throw to first base and ran out toward the visitors’ bullpen at Tradition Field. By the time he stopped to turn and see he had an infield single, Martinez was in the outfield, farther away from first base than first base was from home.
