Sharing his reluctance of being “worthy” to wear the Red Jacket, new St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Jim Edmonds took time during Saturday’s induction ceremony to thank the fans for their support over the years–in particular those who greeted him in the outfield every game.

The chants began before the video highlight presentation even started as fans gave the familiar “Willie, Willie, Willie” cheer for Willie McGee, who had to pause a couple of times during his acceptance speech at the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday.

The 2014 St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame ceremony began with video of Stan Musial playing the harmonica and leading the crowd in “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and then Tony La Russa, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Red Schoendienst, Whitey Herzog, and Ozzie Smith were greeted by applause as they entered the stage.

They were seated on stools lining the front of a decorated dais, together representing 88 years of storied Cardinals history. Among them were a combined 14 All-Star appearances, nine Gold Gloves, two MVP awards and seven World Series championships.

Following the morning’s induction ceremony, Willie McGee and the other new members of the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame made their way across the street to Busch Stadium for an informal media session before they headed to the field to be honored prior to the first pitch.
