In the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game against Tampa Bay, with the go-ahead run suddenly on base and the game on tilt, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny immediately replaced righty Pat Neshek, the Cardinals’ designated setup man. That Matheny went quickly to the bullpen was almost as noteworthy as whom he called from it: lefty Sam Freeman.
