The St. Louis Cardinals announced infielder Pete Kozma has cleared waivers and will be optioned to Triple-A Memphis prior to today's game in Colorado. Right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list and left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales was purchased from Springfield (AA) as part of today's earlier transaction.

Shortly after being designated for assignment Wednesday, shortstop Pete Kozma cleared waivers and was optioned back to Memphis.

Though shortstop Pete Kozma was already displaced after St. Louis' signing of Jhonny Peralta, the Cardinals had no intentions of shuffling him off the roster this time. But after burning through five relievers in their nine-man bullpen Tuesday, they were left with no choice.
