Cardinals Activate Jason Motte From The Disabled List

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that right-handed pitcher Jason Motte (right elbow) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will be part of the team's 25-man active roster for tonight's (7:15 p.m. CDT) series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to Memphis (AAA) following Sunday's game, opening up a roster spot for Motte's return.

Tuesday the Cardinals formally announced the return of former closer Jason Motte. Following the optioning of Sam Freeman to Memphis Sunday, it was a matter of time before the hard-throwing righty returned to the active roster.

Only twice in his career has Jason Motte actually intentionally stepped off the mound to absorb the moment. It goes against instinct to let the mind wander, think back to what has been, ahead to what could be, while entering the game to preserve a lead or, as Motte's most recent job description read, close games.
