Michael Wacha To Start Cardinals' Home Opener; Carlos Martinez To Bullpen; Oscar Taveras To Be Rested; Mike Matheny: Bunt Was OK; Extra Bases

Michael Wacha has been nominated by Cardinals manager Mike Matheny to pitch the second game of the season, at Cincinnati a week from Wednesday. This means, then, that the most valuable player of the 2013 National League championship series will be starting the Cardinals’ home opener against the Reds on April 7.

Outfielder Oscar Taveras, playing for Class AAA Memphis in a game at the Cardinals’ camp in Jupiter on Monday, slipped coming out of the batter’s box on a field becoming wet by rain and appeared to favor his troublesome right leg.
