Cardinals Minor League Spring Training 3-25-14: Chase Brookshire Strikes Out Seven Over Four Hitless/Scoreless Innings; Richard Pedroza Collects Three Singles, One Walk, & One RBI; Cory Jones Strikes Out Four Over Three Scoreless Innings

Triple-A: Memphis & New Orleans (Miami) Tied 0-0

Tim Cooney (Springfield) started and pitched four innings.  He allowed two hits, no runs, one walk, and struck four out.
Eric Fornataro (Memphis) entered in the fifth and pitched two innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, one walk, and struck one out.
Lee Stoppelman (Memphis) entered in the seventh and pitched two innings.  He allowed two hits, no runs, and one walk.
Heath Wyatt (Springfield) entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs.
Tommy Pham (Memphis) started in left field.  2-for-3 at the plate.
Joey Butler (Claimed Off Waivers) started in right field.  1-for-1 with one walk.


Double-A: Springfield Beat Jacksonville (Miami) 5-3

Seth Blair (Springfield) started and pitched three innings.  He allowed four hits, three earned runs, three walks, and struck three out.
Aidan Lucas (Palm Beach) entered in the fourth and pitched two innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck two out.
Iden Nazario (Palm Beach) entered in the sixth and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs.
Aledmys Diaz (International Signing) started as designated hitter.  1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Cody Stanley (Springfield) started at catcher.  1-for-2 with one double and one run.


A-Advanced: Palm Beach Beat Jupiter (Miami) 2-0

Cory Jones (Peoria) started and pitched three innings.  He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck four out.
Anthony Ferrara (Springfield) entered in the fourth and pitched three innings.  He allowed two hits, no runs, and struck two out.
Joe Scanio (Peoria) entered in the seventh and pitched 1.1 innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck two out.
Breyvic Valera (Peoria) started at second base.  3-for-3 with one run.
Casey Rasmus (Springfield) started at catcher.  1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.


Single-A: Peoria Beat Greensboro (Miami) 2-1

Alex Reyes (Johnson City) started and pitched four innings.  He allowed four hits, no runs, two walks, and struck three out.
Kevin Herget (State College) entered in the fifth and pitched two innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, one walk, and struck three out.
Nick Lomascolo (Johnson City) entered in the seventh and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit and one earned run.
Mason Katz (State College) started at second base.  2-for-4 with one double and one run.
Carson Kelly (State College) started at catcher.  2-for-4 at the plate.


Short-Season Single-A: State College Beat Batavia (Miami) 3-0

Chase Brookshire (State College) started and pitched four innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck seven out.
Jeff Rauh (State College) entered in the fifth and pitched two innings.  He allowed two hits, no runs, one walk, and struck one out.
Norge Paredes (Johnson City) entered in the seventh and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs.
Jonathan Escudero (GCL) entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck one out.
Rowan Wick (Johnson City) started in right field.  2-for-3 with one double, one triple, one run, and one walk.
Richard Pedroza (Johnson City) started at second base.  3-for-3 with one double, one RBI, one run, and one walk.


Notes:
Lance Jeffries (Johnson City) requested and received his release from the Cardinals organization.  

The 20-year old right-handed hitter was a tenth round selection by St. Louis in the 2011 amateur draft out of McCluer High School (MO).  He spent three seasons in the farm system making his first stop at Short-Season Rookie-Level GCL and the last two with Short-Season Rookie-Level Johnson City.  He played in a total of 109 games going 77-for-325 (.237) with 12 doubles, six triples, one home run, 30 RBIs, 53 runs, 45 walks, 30 stolen bases, 142 strikeouts, ten caught stealing, .355 OBP, .320 SLG, and .675 OPS.

Last season, Jeffries played 20 games in the Appalachian League and returned home in late July to handle personal business.  He is looking forward to latching on with an independent league or overseas team.


Wednesday the Cardinals affiliates will participate in camp day with games starting at 1PM
