July 31: Cardinals (62-43) @ Pirates (64-42)

Now 2-6 against the Pirates this season, the Cardinals will be facing one of those lefties that has given them trouble this season. Months before he would be named an All-Star, Locke shut the Cardinals out for seven innings. He allowed only three hits — the same number the Cardinals tallied in a Game 2 loss last night.

Once the everyday leadoff man, center fielder Jon Jay was back in the No. 1 spot on Wednesday.

Seeking to revive a lineup that has produced only six runs during a six-game losing streak, manager Mike Matheny is making a change at the heart of the Cardinals lineup.
