Cardinals Select Second Baseman Kolten Wong At #22

The Cardinals got a baseball rat with their first-round Draft pick on Monday, a kid who loves to play ball. They got a young man who, according to his college coach, "plays above his tools."
It had been 25 years since the Cardinals had chosen a second baseman in the first round of the first-year player draft. That choice was 5-foot-9 Florida State infielder Luis Alicea, who played 13 seasons in the major leagues, six of them with the Cardinals and, in his second tour with the club, was manager Tony La Russa's opening day second baseman in La Russa's first game as manager of the Cardinals in 1996.
