The first round of cuts in nearly any Spring Training camp carries few surprises. It's the catchers who were merely there as extra bodies to catch all the pitchers, and the low-Minors prospects who weren't going to make the team this year, anyway.
Matt Carpenter arrived in camp figuring to be the everyday third baseman for Triple-A Memphis. It's appearing more and more possible that he could leave camp as a member of the Cardinals' 25-man roster.
