Players Union Pressuring Albert Pujols To Sign Huge Contract

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa tries not to discuss the stalemated Albert Pujols contract negotiations. But La Russa can't tear himself away from his belief that the Major League Baseball Players' Association is applying pressure, overtly or otherwise, in the matter of a record-breaking, contract extension for the Cardinals' first baseman.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday that he believes the Major League Baseball Players Association is placing undue pressure on Albert Pujols as the slugger negotiates with the club on a new contract.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa believes first baseman Albert Pujols is being pressured by the union to "set the bar" when it comes to his new contract.
